SMD Soldering - Part I

Resistors, Capacitors ans other simple 2-terminals devices


Soldering two-terminal SMD components is pretty easy with a soldering iron. It's better to have a fine soldering tip.

Do the following:

  1. Deposit generous amount of tin on one of the two pads
  2. Position component with twizzers while using soldering iron to keep tin melted
  3. Make sure that component is perfectly laid down. Apply gentle pressure with twizzers to make sure if you have any doubt
  4. When you are happy with the component position, solder the second terminal

 

Make sure that solder is shiny and well spread over both component terminals and landing pads:

To further ease the soldering process, you may also use soldering flux:
